“The question is not, ‘Is it possible?’ but ‘Are you willing?'”
I heard this on a coaching call Monday night, and it’s stuck with me. It’s easy to go through life kind of asleep at the wheel–letting things happen to us instead of doing things with purpose. The truth is, if you want a healthier body, or you want to start your own business, or you want to impact the lives of people in developing countries, you can’t wait for that to just happen.
Each of us is responsible for where we are in life right now, and for the impact we’ve had on the lives around us. My dad loves to say, “You are what you have been becoming,” because he knows people don’t become an “overnight success” (or failure) overnight! These things take time (as the title of one of my favorite Sanctus Real songs says).
My point today is this: if you have big dreams for your life, don’t waste time worrying, “is it possible?” Ask yourself, “Am I willing? Am I willing to be uncomfortable for a (relatively) short time in order to make this happen? Am I willing to take steps today that will get me where I want to be 10 years from now, even if they seem hard and won’t change anything about my life today?” Because if you’re moving a centimeter at a time toward that goal, you WILL get there. It’s just a matter of time.
